Bulletin Listen Watch

Dear Friends,

As casualty estimates continue to rise in the aftermath of the earthquake in Haiti, I want to encourage you to take action on a couple of simple but all-important tasks.  First, commit some time throughout the day to pray:
  • for those who have died and are dying
  • for those who are missing, yet who cling to life
  • for those who are suffering from physical pain, grief, loss, hunger and thirst
  • for those without homes and shelter from the sun
  • for the very young, the sick, and the aged
  • for those who work to bring rescue and relief

Through intercessory prayer we are united in spirit with the people of Haiti and the growing number of rescue and relief workers.   In praying for them, we call on a God to do for us what we cannot do – to save, to comfort, to heal, to strengthen those who are in such profound need at this hour.

Second, consider giving generously, according to your ability, to aid in the rescue and relief efforts.  As you know, the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) has had, over the years, a significant presence in Haiti.  In fact, as of Wednesday, three UMCOR executives who were last seen walking into a hotel moments before its collapse are still missing.  UMCOR’s disaster response teams are already deployed to the area, providing material resources and funding.  I encourage you to use UMCOR as your vehicle for sending contributions to this incredible need.  You may visit the UMCOR website (http://new.gbgm-umc.org/umcor/) for further information on how to send assistance, or you may click here to make a direct contribution online.  If you prefer to write a check to SDUMC and designate your gift to the Haiti disaster, you may do so this Sunday.  Please include in the memo: UMCOR Advance #418325.  However you choose to give, please know that 100% of all contributions will go directly to assist quake victims.

I look forward to worshipping with you this Sunday.

Yours in Christ,

Rev. Mark
