Dear Friends,

Order of worship Announcements

We will welcome the Rev. Charles Hoffman to the pulpit this Sunday as we celebrate Epiphany and begin the new year together.  Rev. Hoffman will preach on the passage from Matthew 2:1-12, which tells the story of the Magi’s journey to Bethlehem and the appearance of the Christ child.  His sermon title is, “He Made the Night a Little Brighter.”

At the request of our Bishop, Minerva Carcaño, we will also spend some time in worship reflecting on three questions as part of a conference-wide “Day of Discernment.” Bishop Carcaño has asked each congregation to dedicate ten minutes this Sunday to the following questions:

(1) Who is Jesus Christ for you?

(2) My walk with Jesus could be immeasurably improved if the church would only…

(3) What is your hope for today and for future generations?

This Sunday, following a brief video introduction of Bishop Carcaño, you will be invited to write your answers to these questions on a hand-out, which will be included in yourbulletin.  While your responses will remain completely anonymous, they will be forwarded to a conference task force which will compile the responses and produce a report for further discernment and missional planning.  By providing these questions to you in advance, I hope you will give some thought to your responses before you arrive for worship.  If you are unable to be in worship this Sunday, but would like to submit responses to these questions, please drop by the office during the week and we’ll provide you with the hand-out that will be used this Sunday.  Your input and participation is important and appreciated.

Blessings to you and to your loved ones this New Year!  2014 will be an exciting year for San Dieguito UMC, and I am blessed to be your pastor and to walk with you on this journey of faith.

See you Sunday,

Rev. Mark
