Hi friends,
As we approach the end of the summer season and prepare for the beginning of another school year, we hope you will join us this Sunday, August 18th for a special worship service where we celebrate the wonderful experiences we had at Camp Cedar Glen and serving alongside Sierra Service Project in Chiloquin, OR.
Summer Camp at Camp Cedar Glen is a wonderful way to spend time in nature, away from the pressures of city-life and social media. This summer’s theme was “Peace Works” in which we took ideas from various cultures around the world and learned how we can apply them to our own lives. One daily theme was “Ubuntu” which is a South African philosophy that roughly translates to “I am, because we are.” This theme served as a reminder that we are all God’s children, and that there is both importance and power in being a part of a community that truly cares for one another.
Similarly, the theme of the week at Sierra Service Project, or SSP, was “A Place at the Table”. This is a reminder that each one of us deserves a spot at the table, and it is our responsibility to help provide that place for others. In their summer booklet, SSP had this to say about the theme: “Grounded in the assurance of God’s unconditional love, we affirm that everyone is worth of ‘a place at the table’ of community and abundance. This love empowers us to pull up a chair for and become advocates with those whose voices are often devalued, excluded, or ignored. Let us celebrate the bounty we experience when all are welcomed at the table.” What a blessing it is to serve alongside a community in which we all have a place at the table.
Summer Camp and SSP are both live-changing experiences for the campers, volunteers, counselors, and staff that are involved. We hope you’ll join us at 8am, 9am, and 10:30 am as we celebrate a summer of camping and service.
Peace and love,
Alex Bridges
