Dear SDUMC Family,

I pray that this finds you well on a beautiful Saturday! (Sorry, we're a day late!) As always, I miss seeing you in person but am blessed by seeing your pictures on social media, emails, texts, notes, and continued generosity to the church and our greater community (I look forward to sharing photos in the June La Paloma of the way that you have supported so many in our community and the world).

One of the other blessings at SDUMC is that throughout the church's history, many people have been called to ministry. Dana Black and Jacob McCulloh both are pursuing the Master of Divinity, and they have been approved for ministry by our church. This Sunday, as we continue to worship on Livestream, we'll be blessed as Dana shares the message and Jacob assists in the liturgy (I'll do my best for an online Children's sermon and a few other Sunday morning elements). Dana will also be bringing an excellent and inspirational message on the Ascension of Christ as we celebrate Ascension Sunday (I had a chance to see the sermon, and it's wonderful)! Make sure to be with us at encinitaschurch.com or on our Facebook Page (where you can chat with friends).

As I think about our callings, it has been yet one more blessing to see you all living out your callings even as we have been in a "Safe At Home" mode. I continue to see so many of you living out the vows of our prayers, presence, service, and witness (yes, of course, in some new ways). As I think about it, SDUMC has never closed. We have always been considered an Essential Business by the State and County! We have continued Worship (yes, in new ways)! We have continued helping non-profits with food, shelter, volunteers, etc... Small Groups, Youth Ministries, and Children's Ministries have continued! We have been and are continuing to live out our Christ-centered mission! Our SDUMC Preschool has even been doing Zoom classes for the children! I've watched many staff and members work tirelessly to keep ministries going during this difficult season! The church is alive and well (yes, in a different way) and God has continued to bless us!

I look forward to being with you on Livestream at 9:30 a.m. this Sunday!

Grace, Peace, and Prayers, John
