Rev. Charles Hoffman

Dear SDUMC Family,
I pray that this finds you well on Christmas morning or whenever you may be reading this. I wanted to share an incredibly special poem-prayer with you. I am sure I’ve shared it previously in worship or in a column, but I think it’s entirely appropriate for us this year. I hope you’ll take a moment to light some candles and invite those you are with to hear these words from the Rev. Dr. Howard Thurman.
I will light candles this Christmas
Candles of joy, despite all the sadness,
Candles of hope where despair keeps watch.
Candles of courage where fear is ever present,
Candles of peace for tempest-tossed days,
Candles of grace to ease heavy burdens.
Candles of love to inspire all my living.
Candles that will burn all the year long.
This week, we will celebrate a special Christmastide Celebration Sunday at 9:30 a.m. Livestream and online. We will share special musical performances, Christmas carols, and our Pastor Emeritus, Rev. Charles Hoffman, will have a meaningful message. I’ll be joining Rev. Hoffman to celebrate Communion with all of you as we close out this last Sunday of 2020. I know this has been a challenging year for us all, but let us come together and give thanks to God for the many blessings that have held us throughout this year. As always, I am grateful to God for each of you!
Grace, Peace, and Christmas Blessings,
