“Dare To Dream – Again: What’s Your BHAG?” – May 22, 2022
Rev. Sandra Olewine
Sunday, May 22, 2022 at 9:30 am
Livestream Worship
The verb “to dream” comes from the Old English, meaning “to rejoice” or “to play music?” It appears that our attentiveness to God’s direction in our lives – our God-sized dreams can make us rejoice. Dreams are hopeful and powerfully life changing. Rev. Mike Slaughter, in his book Dare To Dream, offers the image of a dream as the narrowest crossing between heaven and earth – a “thin place” where God’s powerful intention and desire for us is spelled out like a clear “Holy whisper” that becomes the guide to our future work and decisions. I pray that we can all listen to those “Holy whispers” this summer.
Also, this Sunday, we will welcome a special guest to the pulpit, Rev. Sandra Olewine, District Superintendent of the South District. Rev. Sandy has an extensive background and knowledge in theology and leadership in the local church setting. She has served as a missionary in Jerusalem and developed a new urban ministry in the Long Beach area. She has held leadership roles throughout the UMC, including a delegate to General/Jurisdictional Conference. Driven by a passion for the Gospel, Rev. Sandy is an inspired writer, teacher, and preacher. She will be using the passage from Isaiah 65:17-25 as she shares a message on God’s dreams for all of us and our world.
I look forward to Worshiping with you and hearing Rev. Sandy’s Message this Sunday at 8:00 a.m. (in the Chapel for a shortened Communion Service), 9:30 a.m. (in the Sanctuary with the Chancel Choir & Special Music), or on Livestream at 9:30 a.m. (and throughout the day and week on our YouTube Channel).
Grace, Peace, and Keep Dreaming,
Rev. John
PS This Sunday will also be our Charge Conference (All Church Meeting) following the 9:30 a.m. Worship with Rev. Olewine presiding.
