“Let us consider how to provoke one another to love and good deeds, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another.” John Wesley

Over the next few weeks, we’ll be discussing the variety of ways we can be the stewards of God’s love during our Gathered In Love sermon series. As we continue to (re)gather in love, we will be celebrating two baptisms this Sunday and share our stewarding commitment as we welcome these children: “As members together with you in the body of Christ and in this congregation of The United Methodist Church, we renew our covenant faithfully to participate in the ministries of the Church by our prayers, our presence, our gifts, our service, and our witness.

I want to share a little story (I’m sure I’ve shared it before) that reminds me of the importance of being a steward of God’s love.

A woman was spending all her spare time and money planting trees. “You’re a fool,” her community would jeer. “Why are you planting trees instead of resting? You’re going to die before you ever enjoy sitting in the tree’s shade!” “You are quite right,” replied the woman. “Yet I have spent many happy hours sitting under other trees and eating their fruit. Others planted those trees. Why shouldn’t I make sure that our children will experience the same enjoyment?”

I look forward to gathering in God’s love this week. We’ll meet at 8 a.m. in the Chapel for our shortened Communion Worship, 9:30 a.m. for our Sanctuary Worship with the Chancel Choir and baptisms, and Livestream Worship at 9:30 a.m. (throughout the day and week on our YouTube channel).

Grace, Peace, and Weekend Blessings,

P.S. Next Sunday (October 31st) will be our Annual Fall Festival (including a Trunk or Treat). This is a joyful way that we can welcome the community onto our campus. We still can use cars, volunteer help, and candy donations. Would you please email to help us share some SDUMC hospitality?
