Loving God, give wisdom to us, your earthly stewards who form your church, to reflect prayerfully at this special time on our love for You and our neighbor. Make us mindful of the many gifts You share with us. We ask that Your Holy Spirit inspire and direct us in our giving, remembering that we are only giving back that which is truly Yours. Strengthen us, Lord, to be Your grateful stewards. Through Jesus Christ, our Lord, who has given all that we may live abundantly. Amen. (2021 Stewardship Prayer)
Dear SDUMC Family,
As I write to you, I would ask you to take some time today and tomorrow to pray about how we will continue to be stewards of God’s love through our giving in the year to come. As you read this, know that I give great thanks for the way you as an always generous congregation have continued to share God’s love through your giving during the wonderful times and the challenging times.
Yesterday I took some time to thank God for the many gatherings that I may have taken for granted before we entered this difficult season of life. I also took time to give thanks for the many ways that each of you have been stewards of God’s love through your prayers, presence, service, and witness. Lastly, I gave thanks that we are continuing to regather as a community. Following this gratitude exercise, my heart was full of thanksgiving and hope for the days to come.
Today and tomorrow in your prayer time, I would simply ask you to pray,
God, what would you like to do through me to help SDUMC achieve its mission in the year to come? God, what would you like to do through me? What resources that you’ve poured into my life would you like me to direct toward the ministries of our church? God, how are you calling me to respond to the unconditional love you have bestowed on me?
And then take some time with me to listen…
This week we’ll gather in God’s love at worship for Thanksgiving and Celebration Sunday when we bring our gifts/pledges before God. It will be an exciting Sunday with special music, new members, (re)gathering at our coffee hour (following 9:30 worship), and taking time to give thanks to God.
I look forward to seeing you at 8 a.m. in the Chapel for our shortened Communion Worship, 9:30 a.m. for our Sanctuary Worship with the Chancel Choir, and Livestream Worship at 9:30 a.m. (throughout the day and week on our YouTube channel).
Grace, Peace, and Gratitude,
P.S. Also, as you are able, please help the youth in their service project by bringing a needed item on Sunday as they make lunches for underserved children in the North County and the surrounding areas of San Diego. We’ll have bins on Sunday morning for peanut butter, jelly, bread, fruit, small bags of chips, granola bars, and bottled water.
