Dear SDUMC Family,
I pray that you are having a blessed Saturday on this beautiful weekend. I look forward to a special morning of worship as we celebrate the women of the church and our world this Sunday (we'll have some unique ways to honor all the women of our church family on Sunday morning).
We will also continue our Dare To Dream – Again series. This week we'll look at Mary, the mother of Jesus. I think we often pack up our nativity sets and gently wrap all the figures, including Mary, and wait to hear the stories until the following Advent and Christmas season. Although we don't find details of Mary in every passage, I can imagine how she would follow Jesus literally and in spirit throughout his ministry. God also gave Mary a compelling vision and knew that she would be a grace-filled leader for the people of her time and all of us. I feel two verses speak to how Mary can help us as we begin to dream again.
Mary teaches us to ponder (Luke 2:19). So, if you're feeling a bit worried or hurried and the world seems chaotic at every turn -- be still, pray, ponder, listen, and wait. Then, if you still need a little help, take another moment, and join me in reading a poem by Ann Weems.
Mary, Nazareth girl: What did you know of ethereal beings with messages from God? God-chosen one: What did you know of God that brought you to this stable? Could it be that you had been - Ready -Waiting - Listening - for the footsteps of an angel? Could it be there are messages for us if we have the faith to listen?
I look forward to Worshiping with you this Sunday at 8:00 a.m. (in the Chapel for a shortened Communion Service), 9:30 a.m. (in the Sanctuary with the Choir, Special Music, Baptism, and Celebrating all women of our church family), or on Livestream at 9:30 a.m. (and throughout the day and week on our YouTube Channel).
