Happy Earth Day 2022! Earth Day is the annual celebration of our planet and an opportunity to recommit ourselves to its protection. You might be thinking, "what does being a Christian have to do with Earth Day"? As it turns out, quite a lot.
From the very beginning we read that God called humans to be co-creators alongside God. God gave us dominion over all living things. This does not mean that God called us to domination…to use and abuse it as we wish, but rather God called us to care for it. We are responsible for loving, respecting and caring for God’s creation.
And we have to admit we have not done such a great job. It’s no secret that the climate crisis is one of the most critical issues of our time. It has been said that our generation is the first to feel the impacts of global warming and the last that can do something about it.
So how might we re-spect (or look again) at God’s creation? Is it possible for us to view our Earth differently? Not as a means for our own consumption, but as the overflowing love of God. God is speaking to us in the wind, and rocks, and ocean, and sunset…maybe even in our pets. What is God saying? And how might we join in on the conversation?
I hope to see you for worship this Sunday at 8:00 a.m. (in the Chapel for a shortened Communion Service), 9:30 a.m. (in the Sanctuary with the Choir), or on Livestream at 9:30 a.m. (and throughout the day and week on our YouTube Channel).
Peace & Love,
