"You were called to freedom, brothers, and sisters; only don't let this freedom be an opportunity to indulge your selfish impulses, but serve each other through love." Galatians 5:13

Dear SDUMC Family,

I hope you are enjoying a long holiday weekend and spending some time enjoying God's beautiful gift of creation. I look forward to joining you tomorrow, July 3rd, as we give thanks for our freedom to worship together and the eternal freedom we are given through Christ. On this special Sunday, we'll close our worship services by sharing in Communion as a reminder that Jesus broke the bread and lifted the cup, sharing that we can all experience the ultimate freedom through God.

This Sunday, we will also begin a new sermon series, Intersections: God's Story - Our Stories – Summer 2022. Over the last few summers, we've had fun with this series connecting us to the many ways God speaks to us in our everyday journeys.

Throughout history, the church has incorporated the arts and shared the Gospel message through books, music, art, and film. Tomorrow we'll begin our Intersections 2022 journey by looking at the first chapter of the letter to the Galatians and lessons from the Oscar-winning movie CODA.

I look forward to giving thanks to God as we worship together this Sunday. It will be a morning filled with wonderful music, Communion, unique worship elements, and celebrating the true freedom that God gives to each of us. As always, we'll be in the Chapel at 8 a.m. (a shortened service with Communion in the Chapel) and 9:30 a.m. (in the Sanctuary). If you're traveling or unable to leave home, we'll greet you on Livestream at 9:30 a.m. or on YouTube SDUMC YouTube Link later in the day)!

Grace, Peace, and Weekend Blessings,
John

P.S. As many of us head out to picnics with our family and friends, don't forget this week is also Share The Table Sunday. This is one more way to give thanks to God by sharing with our neighbors in the Greater North County region. If you cannot be with us Sunday, we'll keep the Share The Table bins in the office throughout the week.
