My Post (16)
"I have found that among its other benefits, giving liberates the soul of the giver." -Maya Angelou

Over the last few weeks, we've been talking about stewardship during our Love Is The Way series and giving thanks for God’s love in our lives. I know this has been a difficult year for all of us, and I am so appreciative for the way you have continued to share God’s love through your generous giving. You have kept our ministries and Christ-centered programs running. If you do not know it, please know that you have made a great difference for our church family, local non-profits, missionaries, and our local community!

This Sunday, we will be sharing what it means to Give Thanks for God’s love. As I shared last Sunday, my friends in Nicaragua sing and dance as they bring their gifts forward each week.

I also think of my grandparents and the way they joyfully taught us about Stewardship. As I arrive at the day that brings me to #50 (aka half-century birthday), I remember my grandparent's birthday check always had a note that said, "We hope you have a great day and we also hope that you will use 10% of this gift to help others." Honestly (in my teens), it was not the most exciting part of the card but I still remember (and follow their advice)... I have continued to hold that stewarding moment close to my heart today and give thanks for their love-filled wisdom.

This Sunday will be an exciting day for SDUMC as we celebrate God’s love for us and our neighbors. I pray that as you discern your giving to God's Kingdom for 2021, you'll see this more than a number and view it as a way of sharing a legacy of God's Love and Hope with our community and the world. Hope and love are desperately needed near and far, and through your giving, you can share God's life-changing gifts!

I look forward to a special morning with you on Sunday at 9:30 a.m. on Livestream or 10:45 a.m. at Outdoor Worship this week. We have special music from a string quartet, an amazing anthem from the choir, and other surprises on this special Sunday on Livestream, Outdoor Worship (also, the Drive-By Celebration). This would be a great week to invite a friend to watch with you on a watch party, together on Zoom, or join you outside.

Grace, Peace and Thanks,

PS As I write on the day that I actually hit the 5-0 mark, please know that I am beyond grateful to serve as one of the clergy to such a generous, Christ-centered, and loving church community. Our Celebration Sunday will look a bit different as you see below. However, if you feel comfortable, join us as we gather for a special Drive-By Celebration Sunday (even if you’ve turned in your card come and say hi from a distance and pick up a special token of our appreciation ((and drop off food for the local food bank). Everything will be contactless.

PPS Also, I just wanted to share a great word of thanks on this 50th Birthday for the amazing video (my parents said to say thanks too 😊 as it made them feel like they were here) last Sunday, kind notes, posts, texts, and more… Even though this 2020 birthday was a bit different, the SDUMC Staff Team and all of you made it incredibly special! Thank You!
