Dear SDUMC family,

This week I had a joy-filled interruption during Holy Week and Easter planning. There was a lot of laughter outside my office, and as I looked out the window, the SDUMC preschool was having its Easter Egg hunt on the patio. I tried to join in the egg hunt, but one of the children said, "you're too old to get an egg." However, the joy continued as another child came over and handed me one of the eggs they found (I was honored even though the egg was empty).

As I think about the Easter story, it is a message of incredible joy interrupting the sorrow of those following Jesus. So join me in praying about a friend or family member who needs a joy interruption and then invite them to join you this Easter. On Sunday, we'll gather to share the Easter message with inspiring music and a message of Hope that shares how God, through Easter, gives us a chance to be people who live with joy.

People are more likely to be open to your invitation at Easter than any other time of year. So don't miss this once-a-year opportunity to invite them to Sunrise Worship at 7:30 a.m. (behind Founders Hall) and Easter Worship at 9 a.m. and 10:45 a.m. in the Sanctuary (with Chancel Choir & Brass Quintet)! Following our Sanctuary service, we will share our annual Bubbles & (Light) Brunch. There will be activities for children throughout the morning and both services.

Here's how you can help share the joy this Easter:

  • First, take a little risk and invite a neighbor or family member to join you on Sunday.
  • If you see someone who needs help around the campus, ask what you can do.
  • If you are able, please join me in parking at the business park so guests will be able to find a spot as they arrive.
  • Greet everyone around you. There will be a lot of first-time guests. Invite them to join us for Bubbles & Brunch following each service.

I am excited about sharing Easter Sunday (outside and inside this year) with you! The music that has been planned is incredible, and we'll have a wonderful time of hospitality and fun following worship! I am so grateful to be a pastor at SDUMC, where All Are Welcome! So let's share our SDUMC hospitality and God's grace with the community this Sunday and watch the joy become contagious!

Grace, Peace, and Thanks,
John

P.S. Bring some fresh flowers to fill our "Flower Cross" as we celebrate new life through Christ this Easter Sunday!
