Outdoor & Livestream Worship
“The Lord spoke to Moses and said, “I have heard the complaining of the Israelites; say to them, ‘At twilight you shall eat meat, and in the morning you shall have your fill of bread; then you shall know that I am the Lord your God.’” Exodus 16:11-12
As we continue our series, Outdoor Education: Lessons In The Wilderness, we’ll continue to follow the journey of Moses and leap a few years ahead into another wilderness setting. We’ll meet Moses and the Hebrew people walking in the wilderness after exiting Egypt and escaping through the Red Sea on Sunday. As many of us recall, this fantastic story is filled with great drama and witnessing how God indeed hears the cries of the people.
When the people walk into the wilderness, they forget all that has happened, and they begin to complain. Yet, before we become too critical of this, ancient people think with me for a moment about a recent time of frustration. I’m sure you’re familiar with those times, as am I. Just when we think we’ve forgotten where we put something, it somehow appears right in front of us.
As the Hebrews walk through the desert, they become forgetful. They’ve forgotten God’s promise of faithfulness. They feel lost, forsaken, hungry, and thirsty. Their spirits are more famished than their bodies; they begin to complain and grumble about their circumstances.
Instead of a harsh reply from God, we see, once again, that God provides. This week, I hope that through our worship time, we can see God continues to provide for us daily and turn our grumbling into gratitude. Jeremiah 29:11 reminds us, “For surely I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord, plans for your welfare and not for harm, to give you a future with hope.” Join me in recording your gratitude moments throughout this weekend as we meet the Hebrew people wandering through the wilderness.
For another week or two, we’ll continue our present Worship Gatherings as we look to soon head back into the Sanctuary. 8 a.m. in the Chapel with Communion. 9:30 a.m. in our Outdoor Worship setting with special music. Of course, Livestream Worship at 9:30 a.m. and throughout the day on Facebook and YouTube.
Have a blessed weekend! Grace and Peace, John
PS We’ll also have a special CARE Team moment at our 9:30 a.m. worship. We’ll also be celebrating the work of the CARE Team with refreshments around the fountain following Outdoor Worship.
