My Post (81)

Dear SDUMC Family,

Amid all the busyness and news that comes with this season and our everyday lives, I pray that you can find a little Peace in your days to stop and take in all the wonder-filled moments of the season. I also hope you will pause and join us Sunday as we continue our series, Signs Of The Season, as we meet John the Baptist along the journey. We, who always seem to be in a mad rush this season, need to take some moments to pause, be still, pray, and listen...

As I took time to pause, I watched our campus both in-person and online filled with moments of Peace this week: Centering Prayer on Monday, Preschoolers listening in class, Wednesday Night Vespers, Attendees waiting for words of hope and peace during support groups (every day of the week), People giving through the Blood Drive, Bible Studies connecting to God's message, and so much more...

So, if you're feeling a bit hurried and moving at a relatively quick pace...step back and be still, listen, wait... Then, if you still need a little help, stop what you are doing and join me in a moment of prayer: Prince of Peace, Emmanuel, God with us, in the sacred hush of this prayerful moment, help us like Mary to treasure Your good news in our hearts. Slow us down and give us a renewed awe and sense of wonder as we ponder Your goodness. Thank You for the gift of this still moment and the peace You bring to our lives. Amen.

I look forward to stepping away from the busyness of the world and worshiping with you on Sunday at 8 a.m. (in the Chapel), 9:30 a.m. (in the Sanctuary), or Livestream at 9:30 a.m. (also ongoing on our YouTube Channel). So, please join me as we walk with John the Baptist this week and prepare the way for Christmas to come.

This will be an exciting Sunday as we light the Second Advent candle, experience special music, share in Communion, and look for unique gifts at the Alternative Gift Market! Also, take a moment to experience the Advent/Christmastide artwork in the Chapel and Sanctuary. Call the church office (760-753-6582) if you'd like to come and find some moments of Peace through art through the week.

Grace and Advent Peace,

P.S. Start praying about the gift of inviting someone to join you in worship this Advent! Invite a friend this Sunday. Share hope by giving an alternative Christmas gift from our special missional market. Remind your friends that the amazing SDUMC Choir and musicians will bring us a special Sunday of Music on December 19th during our 9:30 a.m. worship. ...and think about those who might be alone on Christmas Eve and bring them with you for Christmas Eve Worship at 5 p.m., 7 p.m., or 9 p.m.
