Dear SDUMC family,
A few weeks ago, I had a joy-filled interruption amidst these busy Advent days. I ran over to the preschool to lead the monthly Chapel time. At one point, the children raced over with excitement to see me plugging in a blowup nativity (at first, some thought it was a jump house). However, one little child came over and shouted, "look, it's the baby Jesus!" It reminded me of how the shepherds must have felt when they arrived in Bethlehem.
As I think about the Christmas story, it is a message of incredible excitement interrupting a world in need of joy. Please join me in praying for a friend or family member who needs a joy-interruption and then invite them to join you in person or online this Christmas Eve. I'm grateful that we can gather both in-person and online to share the Christmas story with inspiring music and a message of hope that shares how God, through Christmas, gives us a chance to be people who live with joy.
People are more likely to be open to this invitation at Christmas than at any other time of year. Don't miss this once-a-year opportunity to invite them to Christmas Eve Worship at 5 p.m. (Family Friendly), 7:00 p.m. (Traditional Candlelight and Livestreamed), and 9 p.m. (Candlelight with Communion)! We have worked diligently to keep things as safe as possible. We also know that others feel more comfortable staying at home, and we will provide our Livestream service at 7 p.m. (we will share a recorded 9 p.m. service during the Christmastide season).
Here's how you can share the hope on the Holy Evening:
- First, take a little risk by reaching out and inviting a neighbor or family member to join you.
- If you see someone who needs help around the campus, could you please ask them what you can do?
- If you are able, please join me in parking a bit further down on the parking lot or in the business park so guests will be able to find a spot as they arrive. Greet those around you. There will be first-time guests. Invite them to come back and join us for an upcoming Sunday.
- Please share our Facebook "Christmas Eve Invite if you are on social media."
I am excited to share Christmas Eve with each of you! The music that has been planned is inspiring and the Sanctuary is beautiful. I am so grateful to be a pastor at SDUMC, where All Are Welcome! So, let's share our SDUMC hospitality and God's grace with our family, friends, and community on Christmas Eve this year!
Grace, Peace, and Christmas Blessings,
