Dr. Belinda Forbes

I pray this finds you having a blessed weekend. On this Sunday, we will be celebrating Transfiguration Sunday as well as the 152nd anniversary of the United Methodist Women. It is going to be an exciting morning! We will be honoring the UMW and having special moments of music, closing out our sermon series, and we will have a world-changing guest speaker (and a dear friend) sharing the message, UMC global missionary - Dr. Belinda Forbes!
Dr. Belinda Forbes is a missionary with the General Board of Global Ministries of The United Methodist Church serving in Managua, Nicaragua with Acción Médica Cristiana. AMC is a Nicaraguan Christian ecumenical organization specializing in community health and development in Nicaragua’s impoverished rural communities. As AMC’s international liaison for community health, Dr. Forbes serves God and the church by contributing to a community-based primary dental health program, mentoring volunteers, and interfacing with AMC’s international partner organizations. The Christian principles that undergird AMC’s work reflect a living example of the Gospel teachings.
Dr. Forbes shares, “Mission oriented to health and development is less about direct transfer of goods or knowledge and more about sharing, learning, and together implementing ideas that can enable God’s transformation of suffering to wellness.”
Dr. Forbes was raised in Massachusetts. She received her DMD (Doctor of Dental Medicine) degree from Tufts University in Boston. She is also an active United Methodist and United Methodist Woman. Dr. Forbes is married to Dr. Gerardo Gutierrez, director of AMC’s community health program. They live in Managua and have two wonderful daughters. I hope you’ll take some time to join us on this Transfiguration Sunday, UMW Sunday, and Valentine’s Day (amazing how they all connect in many ways). Also, to hear a message of God’s gift of resilience from my dear friend, Dr. Forbes. As always, we will be online at 9:30 a.m. Facebook and the website.
Grace, Peace, and Blessings,
PS Take a moment out of your day to join us for our Drive-Through tomorrow from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. We will have something for everyone (if you are not able to make it out, ask a friend to pick up a Lenten Bag for you – we’ll also put extra bags outside the office on Tuesday and Wednesday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.).
PSS Watch for a link or tune in to our Facebook page for a Contemplative Ash Wednesday Service on February 17th (we will have it playing through the day).
