“What Shall We Bring?”

“I have found that among its other benefits, giving liberates the soul of the giver.” -Maya Angelou

Over the last few weeks, we’ve been talking about stewardship during our “What Shall We Bring?” series and giving thanks for the many ways God has blessed us at SDUMC.

This Sunday, we’ll be sharing what it means to celebrate all that we have by giving thanks to God through our generosity. As I think about my friends in Nicaragua, they celebrate and sing boldly as they pass the offering plate or bring their gifts forward every Sunday.

I also think of my grandparents and the way they joyfully taught us about Stewardship. As I approach the day that pushes me one year closer to 50 (aka birthday), I remember my grandparent’s birthday check always had a note that said, “We hope you have a great day and we also hope that you will use 10% of this gift to help others.” Honestly (in my teens), it wasn’t the most exciting part of the card, but as you can imagine, the reminder and legacy it created for me. I have continued to hold that stewarding moment close to my heart, celebrating their wisdom and giving thanks for their witness.

I look forward to an exciting morning with you at 8, 9, or 10:30 AM this week. We’ll also have a special treat as SDUMC artists will be holding a special Art Show in Founders’ Hall between services – I hope you will join me during that time to celebrate another one of God’s gifts. We will also celebrate two special baptisms at 10:30! This is a week to truly give thanks (and invite a friend)!

Grace, Peace, and Thanks,
