SDUMC Sunday Worship, April 14, 2024 – Rev. Dr. Mark Maddix

This Sunday we are continuing our series on Radical Hospitality as we follow Jesus’ example of inclusion and belonging. In Sunday’s sermon I am looking at the story of the Samaritan women at the well (John 4: 1-26). I will explore the ways Jesus crosses gender, ethnic, religious, and cultural boundaries to engage in a conversation with the Samaritan women. In Jewish culture, a woman was not valued in society. Also, being a Samaritan indicated that she was unclean. In other words, she was an outcast and Jesus is doing the unthinkable by talking with her.
