Sunday, April 21, 2024 – Who is my neighbor?” Rev. Dr. Mark Maddix

When I think about the word “neighbor” in the context of the Bible, I suspect that like me you think of the parable of Good Samaritan in Luke 10: 25-37. It is the most familiar passage in Scripture.

In the parable an expert in the law, probably a scribe, comes to test Jesus by asking how to inherit eternal life. The legal expert knows the book of law and repeats the Shema, “You shall love the Lord you God with all you heart, and with all you soul, and with all your strength, and with all your mind; and your neighbor as yourself.”  The legal expert adds the section about loving you neighbor as yourself at the end of the passage.
