Dr. Matthew Wilson

Director of Community Engagement

Matt Wilson has served in various ministries for over 15 years, including as an Associate Pastor at San Diego First Church and an Adjunct Professor at Point Loma Nazarene University. Matt cares deeply about the intersection of the church’s lived experience, the tradition of Christian faith, and engagement with culture.

Matt holds a Doctor of Ministry from Duke University, a Master of Divinity from Fuller Theological Seminary, and a Master of Arts in Religious Studies from Point Loma Nazarene University.

In addition to his love of theology, history, and biblical studies, Matt is a sports enthusiast who cheers on Duke, the LA Dodgers, the Sacramento Kings, and SDFC soccer and plays basketball and golf. He is an avid mystery novel reader, documentary film watcher, and outdoor explorer.

Matt is married to Lindsay Wilson, a marriage and family therapist, co-owner, and Clinical Director of Cultivate: A Counseling Collective, located in University Heights and La Mesa. Matt and Lindsay have two kids, Rosie and Luke. Rosie is in the 4th grade and is creative, outgoing, and immensely curious. Luke is in the 1st grade, an explorer who loves music and all sorts of sensory play, especially swimming.

Matt is very excited to be serving San Dieguito United Methodist Church. He admires the long history of social justice and the thoughtful faith of this congregation. Whether he is tending to the Garden service, mentoring children and youth, or fostering new connections across North County, he looks forward to building a community where every generation feels deeply rooted and at home.
